Reverend Okoh Daniel was elected on Monday to succeed the highly respected Reverend Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, upon completion of his tenure as head of CAN . Asíwájú Tinubu, the presidential candidate of The All Progressive Congress noted that the new CAN leader who is the General Superintendent of Christ Holy Church is a worthy successor to Rev. Ayokunle whose tenure as CAN president was one characterized by exceptional commitment, principle and wisdom.
The All Progressive Congress Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Friday 29th July 2022 congratulated Reverend Okoh Daniel, on being the newly- elected president of the Christian Association of Nigeria. Tinubu described the new CAN president as a worthy successor to his media aide, Tunde Rahman. “I congratulate Rev. Daniel Okoh on his election as the new president of CAN, noting that Rev. Okoh had truly distinguished himself as the deputy to Rev. Samson Ayokunle and declared that Nigeria can only expect nothing but inspired and enlightened leadership from Rev. Okoh.”
Christian Association of Nigeria is one of the most important organizations in the nation. Not only does it seek the betterment of the Christian community in Nigeria, its moral force and standing benefit all Nigerians as we seek to establish a just and compassionate society where people of all faiths and beliefs live and work together in peace and harmony. As a nation, we are in a critical moment where misguided and terrible actors attempt to destroy social harmony and reign violence on us all. These awful forces seek to stoke religious and ethnic divisions in hope of putting Nigerian brothers against Nigerian brothers.
We are grateful that Christain Association of Nigeria as an organization embodies principles that reflect the values and virtues of Christ. We are glad that the new President of CAN, Rev. Okoh, is a humane and kind soul who has dedicated his life to the betterment of his fellow man and is a person who will work with leaders of other faiths and beliefs to anneal the bonds of unity, inter-religious understanding and tolerance while advocating for the benefits of democratic good governance for all Nigerians regardless of creed or belief systems
“As long as we stand forthright and adhere to these tenets, Nigeria will defeat the plans of those who seek to place discord and hatred at our door. As Rev. Okoh assumes the mantle of leadership, it is my hope and prayer that his tenure brightens every corner of our country and may he be a shining light to all. Decent and good Nigerians of all faiths must ally again such designs. While we may not agree on everything, all well-meaning Nigerians agree that we must live in peace, must respect and honor our diversity and eschew violence and hatred." Tinubu added
The action of Tinubu sending a congratulatory statement to the newly-elected CAN president has sprang up reactions from some Nigerian citizen; "I can't remember if BAT sent congratulatory message to the out gone CAN president when he was appointed. Politicians with deceit. Opportunist. If BAT has regard for CAN and Christians in Nigeria, he won't go for MM ticket and remain adamant and audacious till now" Theophilus said.
Another citizen Jonathan Kolawole said "Congratulating and calling the new CAN President cannot change or influence the decision of the organisation on your MM ticket. Holy Spirit filled men of God cannot be deceived".
ECKO also said The new CAN president should be careful of Tinubu's "come chop and quench" bait. He will soon be the victim of the dirt of Nigerians political games if he listens to this praise from Tinubu. He must be firm in rejecting every effort Tinubu is making to bribe CAN into supporting his attempt at relegating the Christian community in Nigeria politically..
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has unveiled and installed its new president, Archbishop Daniel Okoh. During his acceptance speech, he touched on the issue of the Muslim-Muslim ticket adopted by the APC. He stated that the Christian community has been reduced to fear of being reduced to a second-class citizen.
Also, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has congratulated Archbishop Daniel Okoh, on his election as the new President of the Christian Association of Nigeria. The President’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement by his media aide, Mr Femi Adesina, on Friday in Abuja. According to President Buhari, "Okoh’s election was a testament to his devotion to the Church of God in the country and beyond, distinguished vocation as a Christian leader and abiding commitment in promoting ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue".
He said he valued the counsel and spiritual contributions of Christian leaders to nation-building by encouraging, advising, strengthening, correcting and criticising those in authority. He prayed that the tenure of Okoh in this new phase of ministry would be marked with success, urging the blocs that made up CAN to kindly give the cleric every needed support to excel. He also wished the outgoing president, Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle, best wishes in his spiritual and secular endeavours.
